How to choose the thickness of the Pour Stop

When pouring concrete on a steel deck, Pour Stop is often used to fix the boundary of the floor slab, how to choose the thickness of pour stop?

The following principles should be followed when selecting the thickness of pour stop:

1.   Horizontal and vertical deflection is limited to 6mm maximum for concrete dead load.

2. Steel yield shall be 235MPa the minimum; Design stress is limited to 0.60 times the yield strength for concrete dead load temporarily increased by 1/3 for the construction live load of 1.0 kN/m2.

3.   This table does not consider the effect of the performance, deflection, or rotation of the pour stop support which may include both the supporting composite deck and/or the frame.

4.   Vertical leg return lip is recommended for 1.5mm and lighter.

5.   This selection is not meant to replace the judgment of experienced Structural Engineers and shall be considered as a reference only.
