Calculation of steel floor deck during the construction phase

The role of steel decking during the construction phase

The design of steel deck as a form for concrete is based on SDI for composite steel deck and non-composite deck. The deck acts as a permanent form for the concrete. In addition to providing formwork for the concrete, the deck provides the tension reinforcing for composite deck-slab systems. The deck also provide a safety floor for erection and a working platform for construction trades. lt is critical that the deck be designed to carry these loads to meet the expected performance.

Design principles for the construction phase of steel floor decks

1.1.1 During the construction phase, the steel floor decks as formwork, the following loads shall be calculated.

Dead loads: self-weight of the steel floor decks, reinforcement and concrete.

Live loads: construction live loads, which shall be based on actual construction loads.

1.1.2 When can measure the construction of the actual live load or measured construction live load is less than 1.5kN/m2, construction variable load can take 1.5kN/m2.

1.1.3 The composite floor clab comfort (self-vibration frequency and peak acceleration), should be calculated according to 1.1.1 effective load. Effective load is equal to the floor cover weight and effective live load and effective live load should be taken as follows: residential take 0.25kN/m2 ,other take 0.5kN/m2.

1.1.4 construction stage, the steel floor deck according to the limit state of bearing capacity design, the design value of the combination of the load effect should be determined in accordance with the following formula.

In the formula:

S—- load effect design value.

Ss —-floor slabs, steel self-weight in the calculation of the standard value of the load effect produced by the cross-section.

Sc —-standard value of load effect generated by self-weight of floor slab and reinforcement in the calculated section;

Sq —–a construction stage variable load in the calculation of the standard value of the load effect generated by the cross-section.

1.1.5 During the construction phase, the deflection of the floor slab should be calculated according to the standard combination of loads.

In the formula: 

c —–a construction stage by the standard combination of load effect of the deflection value of the floor slab;

1GK —–Construction phase of the standard combination of permanent load effect calculated by the deflection value of the steel floor decks;

1QK —–Construction stage of the standard combination of variable load effect calculated by the deflection value of the steel floor decks .
